Description
Very Rare Austrian Air Force Pilot's Dagger, Circa 1935. With the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany in 1938, these daggers were turned in/ confiscated and apparently scrapped, with Austrian pilots joining the German Air force being issued the appropriate German dagger, thus leaving only a handful of these daggers in existence. Heavy nickel plating over a brass base. The yellow/ orange grip appears to be fabricated of a composition material. A disc with a slot for attaching the port-epeé, is affixed below the elaborate pommel cap. Circular enamel insignia inset on the cross guard, with a white triangle in the center of a red stippled background. A push button on the obverse releases the dagger from the scabbard. 8" double edge, unetched, blade with median ridge, deeply marked on the obverse of the 1" ricasso "Zeitler/ Wein VIII". The dagger is overall in about mint condition, with just some very minor surface scratches on the scabbard and retains 98% of the original nickel. A really choice example of a very rare World War II associated military blade.Auction Info
