Description

Very Rare Civil War Confederate Waist Belt Plate (Mullinax 122) On The Original Belt Accompanied By Mullinax Letter of Authenticity. Perfect untouched condition and virtually identical to plate 122 in Mullinax, including the very small tongue but not accompanied by keeper and obviously used this way. The 1 1/2" wide belt has a very finely applied tarred finish, is handstitched, obviously period where it attaches to the plate, and in very fine, supple sound condition with just a few small areas of flaking. While there is little question this plate was used during the period with this belt, we are of the opinion the belt was originally used with another plate as, in addition to two holes to accommodate the small tongue on this plate, there are also 4 small punctures, apparently to originally accommodate a plate with a wire type hook. Additionally the 37 mm width of the belt, as compared to the 53 mm height of the plate would indicate the same conclusion. A most rare plate, with nut a few specimens extant and accompanied by a belt that is was definitely used with during the war. The first and only example we have ever seen available.
