Description

Very Nice Colt M1855 .58 Caliber Revolving Military Rifle, professionally restored many years ago for NSSA competition shooting. #3691 matching. The restoration consisted of boring out and relining the barrel with a sleeve which now presents mint rifling. Additionally, all of the nipples were replaced with correct period mint examples. The remainder of the gun remains in its original configuration as manufactured. Not martially marked but 31 3/16" barrel with front sight configured for socket bayonet. These guns were used by Berdan's 1st Regiment of U. S. Sharpshooters early in the war before switching to the Sharp's. .58 caliber, sleeved, rifled bore about mint. Excellent marks, mechanically crisp. Metal generally smooth and gray with just some small scattered areas of very light pitting. Wood also excellent with nice patina, just showing signs of honest use with few dents and minor abrasions, very sound. A very nice example of this very scarce and extremely desirable Civil War longarm ready to take to the range.
