Description
Restored and Composite Confederate Fayetteville .58 Caliber Percussion Rifle/Shotgun Conversion, Fayetteville 1864. 33" barrel, bore now smooth, possibly by design as this gun was used as a shotgun in the post war period. All metal dark and smooth with roughness around the nipple / tang and a series of small dents on the barrel at the lower band. Brass mounts with an untouched patina. All markings are deep and crisp including correct original CSA/Fayetteville/1864 with eagle on the lock, V.P. eagle head on the breech and very nice original CSA on the tang of the brass butt plate. Replaced two leaf folding rear sight, original ramrod. Mechanically perfect. Wood is excellent, though lacking any Fayetteville cartouche and with a few minor dents. Butt stock is likely a late 19th century replacement. It has rack/arsenal numbers on each side, a post war practice. The stock shows a cut behind the second barrel band. Trigger guard with small crack at swivel. A nice representative example of a desirable Confederate firearm converted from an absolutely authentic Fayetteville and preserved as a handsome example.Auction Info
