Rare Civil War-Era Mahogany Gangway Board.

Stained mahogany archtop gangway board, approximately 18 x 30 ½-inches and 2 ½-inches thick. Artistically relief-carved with an eagle, shield and fouled anchor motif. The spread-wing eagle's head faces to his left and is surmounted by three carved stars. A handsome work of American folk art.

Condition: A 2 x 9-inch veneer repair at the lower edge, not affecting the central carving. A few thin cracks along the edges of the raised border; remnants of removed hardware on the reverse. Old Boston antique shop label affixed to back.
