Description

Original Civil War Ammunition Caisson and Limber. Very rare and in excellent condition. retains much of the original period paint on both the wood and iron furniture. All iron fittings are present including handles, corner pieces and lid hasps. The copper covering on the limber chests appears to be original but possibly extremely well done old replacements. Body of the caisson with much of its original paint with undercarriage and wheels / hubs very sound. Attached to the back of the caisson is a spare wheel also in excellent condition. Hitching pole excellent sound condition with original O ring. An exceptional example of this basic piece of Civil War artillery equipment, showing no signs of restoration, other than possibly the limber chest covers, and rarely available on today's market.
