Nice Civil War Group Identified to Henry Dunning Co D 188th New York Infantry. Group belonging to Private Henry Dunning Co D 188th New York Infantry recently acquired directly from descendents. Regulation US issue Civil War blanket 63" X 80" typical very coarse weave brown wool with dark brown stripe on each end and yarn stitched US in the center. Stenciled on one end "H.D." in faded red letters, stitched on the opposite end "HD" and inked "H Dunning" on one side. Shows obvious signs of hard wear and honest use with a large center tear and scattered holes. 1864 dated Springfield rifle in untouched "attic" condition with nice patina to the wood few minor dents, sharp edges. Metal smooth and gray with dark finish at the breech. Infantry waist belt with brass Pattern 1839 brass plate showing nice mellow patina, leather is crazed with surface losses, reverse with the letters "HD" in ink now faded. Lightly crazed leather percussion cap box marked "Baker and McKenney NY" on inner flap, no wool, both belt loops detached at the top. .58 caliber socket bayonet gray blade with minor surface rust, leather scabbard with minor surface crazing. 9" long powder horn. Soldiers Memorial for Company D 188th New York Volunteers listing Henry Dunning as a private. 18" X 21 1/2" damage at the top and tape repairs. A fine historic Civil War group in absolutely untouched condition.
