Description

Massachusetts Arms Company Maynard Primed .31 Caliber Percussion Belt Revolver #250. Taken by Major Russell During John Brown's Raid at Harpers Ferry. The gun is accompanied by the original brass, with blued steel sprue cutter, .31 caliber bullet mould, and the eagle on hummock Mass. Arms powder flask, both in perfect untouched condition. Although the serial numbers of the approx. 200 of these guns that were acquired by John Brown in 1857 have never been established, it is known that this particular gun was the property of Russell and acquired by him at Harpers Ferry. 7" barrel, the gun overall in excellent crisp condition. Retains 100% of the cylinder scene, mechanically fine, crisp markings, including the eagle on the primer door, perfect bore. Retains much of the original blue and case finish just fading/mixing with a smooth patina on the barrel. Also retains most of the silver on the straps. The only negative point on the gun is that the screw head is broken on the barrel top strap where it attaches to the frame. Along with the captured Sharps carbine listed elsewhere with Major Russell's personal effects, this revolver and accessories represents the most remarkable set of firearms related to Brown's infamous Harpers Ferry to ever appear on the market.
