Ingenious Cast Iron Folding Boot Jack That Belonged to Gen. George E. Pickett. Fabricated entirely of cast iron with black painted finish, about 80% of which remains. 5 1/8" when closed 8 1/4" when opened. Accompanied by an old display card, "This Boot Jack belonged to General George E. Pickett (Pickett's Charge - Gettysburg). Donated by Colonel C. Pickett, U. S. Army". The piece is also accompanied by the original postal cover, dated 1949, in which the piece was shipped from "Col. C. Pickett O-5552 / Hq, USARF Antilles / A. P. O. No. 851 / C. o. The Postmaster, Miami Fla." to Rep. L. H. Gavin, Member of Congress / Room 1629 New House Office Bldg. / Washington / D. C." This was the father of renowned Civil War collector William G. Gavin, from whose estate the piece was recently acquired. A fascinating artifact from one of the most iconic figures of the American Civil War and absolutely authentic.
