Description

Colt 1861 Navy Revolver Inscribed to N. M. Edwards, Lt 1st N.Y.V. Engrs. Serial #11648 Matching serial numbers, the wedge numbered 0433 and 1648, generally smooth and gray with numerous small dents at the wedge, traces of case colors on the frame, 2 frame screws extend 3/8" from surface. Sharp lettering, 60% cylinder scene. Grips with 75% original varnish but with small chip at butt. Back strap and butt strap each with a threaded hole, cylinder does not register. Trigger guard strap finely engraved "N. M. Edwards Lt. 1st N.Y.V. Engrs".
The 1st New York Volunteer Engineers served in South Carolina from 10/61 - 4/64 with duty at Forts Wagner, Beaureguard and Pulaski, operations against Morris Island, Fort Wagner and Fort Sumpter. After 4/64 operations at Petersburg and Richmond, construction of Fort Hell and Dutch Gap Canal. Mustering out June 30 1865.
