Civil War 23rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment Flag.
The flag measures 60 x 77-inches (including the fringe). Mounted on wood and framed under Plexiglass to an overall size of 60 x 82-inches. Silk backing with captions silkscreened in gilt and the large American eagle and shield hand-embroidered in gold thread.

The Kentucky 23rd Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp King in Lexington, Kentucky in January, 1862. The regiment saw extensive service and participated in the battles of Perryville, Stone's River, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Jonesboro, Franklin and Nashville. The regiment lost 5 officers and 84 enlisted men killed.

Condition: Fair. There are major losses and splits to the silk backing, with many pins holding the fragments together. Missing about 24-inches of the fringe along the bottom. The embroidery remains in very good condition. From the Collection of Dr. Phillip R. Rutherford
