Altered Confederate Fayetteville .58 Caliber Percussion Rifle, Fayetteville 1862. Correct original 33" barrel with the front sight reduced to a blade and the bayonet lug on the side of the barrel removed. The wood is excellent and untouched but has been shortened to 2½" above the rear band. Band correct and original with small groove cut in the top to serve as a rear sight. Sling swivel removed from trigger guard bow and missing rear sight. Breech with correct V, P, eaglehead and partial date. Very rare transitional 1862 lock date. Just some very minor pitting at the breech, otherwise the metal is excellent, smooth and gray. Mechanically perfect and excellent rifled bore. All brass with nice untouched patina and, remarkably, retains the original ramrod. An excellent candidate for restoration with this very rare transitional date.Auction Info
