Description

38th Regiment, New York Volunteers, Civil War ID Disc. The obverse is stamped, "J. W. Lockwood / Co. D /38th / Reg. /N.Y.S.V. / North Castle". The reverse has a laurel wreath and "War of 1861" above. In the center are stamped battle honors: Bull Run; Yorktown; Williamsburg; Fair Oaks; Before Richmond; Bristow Station; Bull Run; and, Federicksburg. Below the honors are the words, "Engaged in the above battles." The 1.125" pewter disc has a bale and suspension ring at 12 o'clock.

John Lockwood enlisted in the 38th New York Volunteers, a two-year regiment, on May 5, 1861 in New York City as a private. Lockwood was promoted corporal on February 1, 1863. He mustered out on June 22, 1863.
