33 Star Silk Flag Of The 55th Virginia Cavalry Carried at Harpers Ferry 1859 With Analysis From Fonda Thomsen Blue silk flag measuring 25" X 26 1/2", 33 white stars pierced through the blue silk and bound around the edges with silk thread. Attached to both leading edge corners are silk ties. Silk shows expected minor splits and tears. Centered on the flag is a type-written note stating that the flag was made in 1858 and carried by Co A 55th Virginia Cavalry at the capture of John Brown at Harpers Ferry in 1859. Accompanying the flag is a detailed analysis by noted textile expert Fonda Thomsen.
