[Civil War]. State of Texas Loyalty Oath. One partially printed page, 8 1/2 x 10 3/8 inches, Travis County; July 1, 1867. Loyalty Oath "No. 236" signed by "Billie Bell" with his mark. The Loyalty Oath, also known as the Oath of Allegiance, was a document pledging the signer to "faithfully support the Constitution and obey the laws of the United States, and...encourage others so to do." Signed by James Robinson, and W. C. Phipps as Register. Cancelled in ink across the body of the document.Condition: Light toned. Minor wear at left edge from previous binding. A few instances of ink blotting, not affecting legibility.
