Description

Civil War-Era Snare Drum With a Painted Sunburst Design. Approximately 16 ¼ x 14 ¾-inches in diameter and 15 ¼-inches high. A handsome snare drum featuring a red-black-yellow (or toned white) 6-inch sunburst design painted around the bone vent hole. Each stylized "ray" is further adorned with a round-head brass tack at its base. The natural wooden shell features two rows of round-head brass tacks on either side of the design. The counterhoops appear to have been painted red at one time but the color has faded over time. The drum is complete with rope and leather ears. Four strands of snare gut are secured through a brass strainer. Both heads are complete.

Condition: Very good. With some minor loss and cracking to the batter counterhoop; the snare counterhoop has tacked repairs near the joining seam, a few hairline cracks in the shell.
