Description
Altered U.S. Springfield Model 1878 Trapdoor Musket. Serial no. 301850, .45-70 caliber, 22-inch barrel with Buffington rear sight. Blued finish. Case-hardened breechblock and action. Walnut stock. Sling mount.Condition: Fair as altered. Barrel and fore-end shortened to carbine length. Barrel retaining browned finish mixed with age patina. Traces of case-hardening remaining in protected areas. Wood with wear and minor marks. Action needs work, probably a mainspring.
