Description

Superb Georgia Slouch Hat With a State of Georgia "Local" Button.

A rare Georgia Confederate officer's slouch hat which lacks the trim and officer's knot but retains its local Georgia 14-mm button pinning up the brim of the hat on one side. Single-piece construction fur felt with a tall crown formed in a distinctive style. This style of hat was popular throughout the South during the war, worn by Confederate officers from lieutenants to generals. Surviving examples are rarely encountered. This example was formerly in the William Turner Collection.

Condition: Modest soiling from honest wear and handling. A few small scattered holes, mainly in the area where the hatband once was. A choice item in any condition.
