Description
Rare Civil War Major's Overcoat and Removable Cape. The overcoat, of heavy midnight blue wool, is trimmed on the edges in black tape (now faded to a green tint) with decorative swirls around the slash pockets on each side and major's sleeve rank. Two of the four wooden front buttons remain. All front loops are present (one detached) but none of the frogs remain. The inside is lined in quilted light-blue cotton. There is one large interior pocket on the left breast. The removable cape is lined in polished cotton and is trimmed in black tape, now faded. The cape retains the two officer's buttons at the neck. While the ensemble is not named, verbal provenance identifies it to an army surgeon named Muller or Moller.Condition: The overcoat is in very good condition, mainly dirty from storage. The cape's lining is stained and has a few small to moderate sized holes and tear. The exterior has a few trivial moth nips.
