Description
George Armstrong Custer: His Personal Indian War Era Lambskin Gauntlets with Family Provenance. Originally sold with many Custer artifacts in Butterfield's auction of items from Col. Charles A. Custer, they were resold by that firm as part of the April 1995 auction of the incomparable Alex Acevido Custer collection (Lot 34). In excellent condition, they show just enough light soiling and wear to indicate that they were well-used by Custer.Like the saddle sold by Heritage in a previous auction, gauntlets like these were essential tools of the trade for a cavalryman, and familiar photos of Custer show him wearing such gloves. Each measures 11.5" x 7.25" wide at the cuff.
