Description

French Captain's Kepi With WWI Tank Insignia. A handsome officer's kepi with captain's rank gilt trim topped with the polo style gilt braid. A silk thread braid has been crudely stitched to the crown of the kepi, the significance of which is unknown to this cataloger. The kepi stands tall and is internally reinforced to maintain its shape. A brass tank corps insignia is mounted to the front of the black band. It is lined in gray linen and retains its black leather sweatband. No maker's marks or other identifying marks are present. The ½" wide gilt chinstrap is held in place by two small brass buttons with the flaming grenade insignia of the infantry. The red wool has a few small moth nips and a small repair on the back. The fiber visor bears surface cracks from age. Generally the kepi is in very good condition.
