Description

Butler's Rangers: Rare Cartridge Box Plate, c. 1778-1784. 2" x 3" brass plate a circle engraved Butlers/Rangers around a pierced Royal Cipher, topped by a crown. An American Provincial Corps of the British Army, this regiment was raised from colonial loyalists by Colonel John Butler in 1777-78 in New York, Pennsylvania and Canada. One of the most active Tory regiments.



Condition: Likely a dug specimen, loss at top and loops on the verso. Still an extremely rare Revolutionary War period piece.
