Description

Swedish Officers' Spiked Helmet, Circa 1900. A striking Swedish officers' spiked helmet with black lacquered leather (or possibly fiber) body and fiber front and rear visors. The front plate is a striking three-piece construction featuring the gilded arms of Sweden with a center plaque of blue enamel upon which are mounted three gilt crowns, all this set upon a fired-silver plate featuring flags and recumbent lions. The 4 ¼-inch spike is mounted to a round silver base affixed to the helmet via four gilt star-head studs. The leather-backed flat silver chinscales are mounted with plain silver rosettes. A single yellow silk cockade is on the right side. The liner features a 2-inch leather sweatband and blue silk head lining. The interior of the helmet is lined in blue felt. A beautiful, well-made spiked helmet, rich in detail.

Condition: Excellent condition. Exhibiting only light wear. Some tarnishing to the silver fittings. From the collection of J. T. Hamrick, M.D.
