Description

Rare and Highly Decorated Heavy Bronze Roman Gladiator Helmet.

Made in Italy; cast in solid bronze between 1750 and 1839 for the Grand Tour. Raised well-formed decorations depicting Roman figures throughout. Measuring 17 1/2-inches at its widest point, 13-inches in height. Weight: 22-pounds, 4-ounces.
It is worth mentioning, original helmets were highly decorated and never intended for combat. All gladiators would walk around the inner walls of the coliseum in a parade wearing these over the top decorated helmets without a mask so that their fans could see their face.

Please note: modern copies of these helmets can sell for or reach the price tag of $15,000. Original gladiator helmets rarely ever had a facemask; they were added later throughout the years as a selling point still practiced today.

Condition: Fine as presented; with minor handling and storage wear.
