Description

Prussian Model 1895 Infantry Officers' Spiked Helmet With Black Buffalo Hair Parade Plume. Measuring approximately 14-inches tall and featuring a polished leather skull and visors. The front visor is trimmed in gilded-brass; the rear untrimmed. Gilded-brass Prussian eagle front plate affixed to the body via two threaded posts and square nuts and washers. There are no additional holes in the helmet body. A gilded-brass spine runs from the rear of the spike base to the edge of the rear visor. An 8-inch tall trichter which supports a 13-inch long black buffalo hair plume is mounted to a round base held to the helmet by four star-head threaded studs held by four square-head nuts. Flat gilt chin scales are held by rosettes retaining both the appropriate cockades. The helmet is complete with the 2-inch wide leather sweatband and split silk lining. The underside of the front visor is lined with green morocco leather; the rear visor lined with red morocco. A paper maker's label reading "W.S.H. Marke" and size "59" is attached to the crown.

Condition: Near excellent. Light crazing to surface of the leather on the skull and rear visor; the rear visor is slightly misshapen on one side which can easily be rectified. From the collection of J.T. Hamrick, M.D.
