Description
Prussian Model 1894 Cuirassier Other Ranks Parade Helmet. The helmet which is considered by most collectors to be the pinnacle of military headgear, and certainly the most eye catching exhibit in anyone's collection. The helmet features an elegant Tombac skull, front bill and segmented lobster tail. The edges of the skull, visor and lobster tail are edged in nickel silver trim, with domed nickel silver rivets securing the segments of the lobster tail. The underside of the front visor is painted green; the underside of the lobster tail painted black. The convex chin scales are complete, functional and fully leather backed. The original rosettes are not present. The front plate is affixed to the helmet via threaded posts, washers and retaining nuts. No additional holes are present on the front of the skull. The enlisted style eagle is of exceptional quality and exhibits rather fine detailing. The eagle is mounted to an oval base and secured to the helmet body via a threaded post, washer and brass wing nut. Four additional holes are on the top of the skull to accommodate a spike and base when the parade eagle is not required. The helmet has a soft brown leather liner with 14 fingers and leather adjustment cord. The helmet bears no maker's markings, size markings, or regimental markings. The first segment of the lobster tail is loose, likely fixed by tightening the securing rivets. The helmet bears several small shallow dents and a few light abrasions, otherwise it is in very good condition, awaiting some trivial restoration.Auction Info
