Description

Prussian Guard Dragoon Regiment 2 Officers' Spiked Helmet.

A magnificent example with black lacquered body, square, silver-trimmed front visor and silver back spine. A 5" spike is mounted to a cruciform base held by four gilt star retainers. The helmet features a large and impressive wide-winged guard eagle front plate with mounted guard star. No additional holes in the body but the existing holes have been enlarged slightly. Both cockades are mounted beneath gilt, slightly convex chinscales, held by simple silver rosettes. The officer style lining features a 2 ½-inch leather sweatband with an olive-green silk head liner.

Condition: Very good. Surface crazing to the exterior finish, as is usual; crown of the helmet slightly pushed in; leather sweatband repaired with sections of added leather. From the collection of J.T. Hamrick, M.D.
