Lobster-Tail Helmet [Zischagge].

Of traditional form, a good representative example of this rare piece of European armored headgear originally from the 17th century. [This helmet has not been dated]. Some of these helmets saw use in America later in life. The ear pieces are present and the rivets/leather tabs are in place, both pierced ear pieces are in place fastened to the dome/brim area and currently do not move much. Together with the heart shaped wing nut that controls the sliding nose piece. Four section 'lobster tail' with the lower section terminating in a point with decorating rivets throughout. Condition: The entire helmet with deep dark age patina and some scattered pitting. Numerous dents, mars thoughout. Some leather present. Some water stains present. Rust and pitting underneath. Some replacement screws, rivets. Helmet weighs approximately 3 lbs.
