Description

Japanese Lacquered Iron Kabuto and Menpo.

This finely crafted kabuto (helmet), featuring prominent rivets and an intricately designed rim with raised eyebrows, is paired with a menpo (face mask) signed by the renowned Myochin family of armorers. This piece dates back to the Edo Period, a time when samurai armor was not only essential for protection but also carried deep symbolic significance. The kabuto held a prominent role in the identity and stature of the samurai, often referenced in Japanese sayings and codes that reflect its cultural importance.

Condition: The helmet shows minor, expected wear along the lacquered edges, typical of its age, but these do not detract from its overall excellent appearance. Fine handling and storage marks are visible, yet the piece remains an impressive representation of Edo-period craftsmanship.
