Description

Imperial German Bavarian Officers' Dragoon Spiked Helmet. A beautiful helmet requiring minimal effort to restore it to period condition. The polished black leather body retains its shape and is largely free of the usual crazing and surface blemishes. The helmet features a silvered metal cruciform spike base held to the helmet by three star-head studs and one rounded stud. The screw-on spike is absent. Currently, a Bavarian front plate is mounted to the body, though it may well be a later replacement. The body has no additional holes in the front, which may have indicated modification for other front plates. The front visor is likewise trimmed in silver. Both front and rear visors display some modest crazing and the silver trim on the front visor needs to be refitted a bit. The slightly convex silver chin scales are mounted to the helmet with two silvered rosettes. Both the Reichs and Bavarian cockades are present. The officer's quality liner features a wide tan leather sweatband and blue silk lining. The underside of the visors are trimmed in red and green. No size marking, regimental marking or maker's marking is present. A beautiful example awaiting proper restoration.
