Etched and Gilded Spanish Morion-Cabasset.

Approximately 12 1/2-inches tall. The steel helmet of traditional form, dome-shaped with crested pattern. Roped pattern borders to brim. Beautiful etching and gilding to dome overall. Bordered but spaced rivets secured the base by head lining counterparts. Hammer marks to interior. One-piece construction. According to consignor notes, Milan c. 1580. It has the curious little point projecting from the top, as Stone's Glossary refers to it. Stone's Glossary also states, about the Cabasset; "The name is Italian and means pear, and the little point is supposed to represent the stem. Fig. 204."

Condition: Good for its age. Moderate wear overall, with patina, pitting and scattered marks. A few separations and holes where the pieces meet. Etching has been cleaned, interior with hammer marks and textured.
