English Civil War Lobster-Tail Helmet.A 17th-century English "lobster-tail" helmet, constructed of darkened iron. The skull is forged in one piece, fitted with the iconic multi-lame neck defense of four articulated plates, known as the lobster tail. The hinged ear guards remain attached to the leather straps. The visor is secured to the skull and fitted with a sliding nasal bar topped by a heart-shaped finial struck with an incised M. Rolled edges reinforce the visor, ear guards, and tail. No interior cloth lining present. Note: Helmets of this type were widely used by both Parliamentarian cavalry under Cromwell and Royalist forces loyal to Charles I during the English Civil War (1642-1651). Known for their durability and distinctive profile, they remain one of the quintessential martial headpieces of the period.
Condition: Very good overall, with scattered areas of heavier patination, minor bruising, and small surface marks consistent with age and use. The leather straps show wear, with some losses and crazing, though largely intact.
