Description

Circa 16th Century Hungarian Warhammer.

This Hungarian Warhammer, likely from the 16th century, has nice etched decorations, with corded decorations on the spike, hammer stem, and socket. It is 8 inches long, and 4 inches tall, with the face of its hammer being a little less than 1 ½ inches wide on its square baluster face. The handle is a modern replacement. Even with that in mind, this piece comes out to less than a pound in weight, and even with a heavier wood for a handle, would still be a nimble weapon. With its decorations and good condition this is an excellent piece of Eastern European renaissance militaria.

Condition: Good, some pitting and spots of rust on metal pieces.

Provenance: Shuler Auction House S174/Lot 635.
