Description

A Complete Edo-Period Samurai Yoroi [Suit of Armor].

Representing the craftsmanship and warrior culture of feudal Japan. The 16-plate sujikai steel kabuto (helmet) is finished with a rich brown lacquer and features an intricately crafted tehan (protective neck guard) and a silk-covered mabezashi (visor). The fukigayashi (turnback crests) are adorned with a sentoku family mon (crest), adding to its historical significance and authenticity.

The do (cuirass) is constructed in the kebiki laced anime style, showcasing its traditional design, and the haidate (thigh protectors) and kote (armored sleeves) are beautifully matched with a gilt-stamped silk lining, enhancing the suit's luxurious details. The do is further distinguished by blue makie lacing, which underscores the high level of artistry in its assembly.

Condition: This set, in 'as found' condition, with stress, cracks and flaking, but appears complete and genuine example of samurai armor [in pieces, not assembled], once assembled, there is a possibility of minor or supporting items absent [see images]. This is an artifact from the Edo period, showcasing the elegance and strength of Japan's warrior class. From the Collection of Jonathan Kern Sold to Benefit Charity
