Description

1872 Pattern Shako For the 24th Regiment of the New York National Guard. Blue cloth material over a felt body with a leather front visor. Patent leather chinstrap. Gilt New York "Excelsior" chin strap buttons. Brass front plate with "NATIONAL GUARD" logo and "24" regimental number. Light blue and white pompon. Oil cloth sweatband. Baker & McKenney paper maker's label mounted to top inside of shako. Shako named to "J. D. Coy" of Smyrna, New York. Helmet size 7 1/8. A few moth nips and additional tracking to the blue material and some crazing to the leather bill. A bit of separation in the cloth where the top meets the body. Sweatband slightly tatty, otherwise the shako is in very good condition.
