U.S. Springfield Model 1878 Trapdoor Rifle.
Serial no. XXX829 (worn), .45-70 Caliber, 29 3/4-inch barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight. Blued finish. V/P/[eaglehead] proof to left side of barrel. Lock marked: (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD. Smooth walnut stock with sling swivels, stacking swivel and metal ramrod. 74 stamped to right side of stock. U.S. marked metal butt.

Condition: Very good. Retaining approximately 30-40% of a thinning finish with signs of wear and patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs, dings and bruises to wood. Noticeable repair to base of stock. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
