    U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1871 Ward-Burton Bolt Action Carbine. No visible serial number, .50 caliber, 22-inch round barrel secured by a single barrel band. Blued finish, bright bolt. Bolt marked WARD BURTON PATENT / DEC. 20.1859.FEB.21.1871. Left side of receiver marked U.S. / SPRINGFIELD 1871. Saddle ring and bar mounted on the left side of the stock. Walnut stock. Condition: Metal with a uniform gray patina and with scattered light pitting. Stock with moderate dents and scratches. Bore bright. Action strong.
