Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1884 NYC Trapdoor Rifle.Serial no. 556593, .45-70 caliber, 32 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear folding sight. Blued finish. Top of action marked: us / model / 1884. Left side of barrel features V / P / (eagle head) / P proof marks. Lock marked: (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD. Smooth walnut straight stock with two barrel bands (each marked U), sling swivels and stacking swivel. Right side of stock stamped: 401 13NY. Number 11 stamped to top of stock. US stamped metal buttplate.
Condition: Very good. Retaining traces of finish, the balance a dark grey patina with areas of thinning, handling wear and patches of pitting. Scattered dings and scuffs present to wood. Crisp action. Moderately pitted bore.
