Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine.Serial no. 18426, .45-70 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear sight. Lock marked: (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / 1873. Smooth hardwood stock. Barrel band marked with the letter U. Saddle ring and bar. Circle P cartouche to base of stock. U.S. marked metal carbine buttplate.
Note: Pre-1876 carbines under serial number 43,700, are considered typical of the model armed with Custer's 7th Cavalry.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with noticeable signs of age, handling wear and surface rust. Heavy scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Action good. Pitted bore.
