Description

U.S. Springfield 1864 Trapdoor Rifle.
Unserialized, .52 caliber, 32 ½-inch barrel with fixed front sight. Lock marked: 1864, (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD. Smooth hardwood full-body stock with sling swivels and leather shoulder sling. Top of stock stamped 16 near butt. Metal ramrod. Carbine metal butt marked: U.S. / 16 / CNG.
Provenance: National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. Sold to benefit the Museum's collections and acquisitions.

Condition: Good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina, with noticeable wear, age and pitting. Heavy scuffs, dings and bruising throughout wood. Action needs adjustment. Lightly pitted bore.
