U.S. Model 1840 Hall-North Breech-Loading Percussion Carbine, Type II. NVSN, 52 caliber, 26 1/4-inch smoothbore barrel with fixed front and rear sights. Breech marked U.S. / S. NORTH / MIDLTN / CONN. / [date illegible]. Breech casehardened; barrel and iron mountings finished with brown lacquer. Walnut stock and metal buttplate. Small inspector's cartouches stamped in the stock just aft of the breech. Two iron barrel bands with an 8 1/2-inch long sling bar and ring fitted to the lower band and the area just above the trigger. Type II operating lever. Button-head ramrod. Condition: Very good. All metal surfaces with a smooth plum brown patina. Maker's markings and date only partially visible on the breech. Breech powder pitted. Stock with modest light scratches and shallow dents. Action strong. Smooth dark bore.
