U.S. Jenks Navy "Mule Ear" Breech-Loading Percussion Rifle.

Unserialized, .54 caliber, 35-inch barrel with fixed front sight. Case-hardened breech lever. Top of barrel marked: WM. JENKS and U.S.N. / RP / P / 1844. Lock stamped: WM JENKS and N.P. AMES / SPRINGFIELD / MASS. Smooth walnut straight stock. Three brass barrel bands, triggerguard and buttplate.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a mottled grey patina with scattered patches of pitting and handling wear. Dings and scuffs present to wood. Action good. Strong bore. From the Collection of Dr. Phillip R. Rutherford
