U.S. Amoskeag Mfg. Co. 1864 Trapdoor Rifle.

Unserialized, .52 caliber, 32 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear ladder sight. Blued finish. Lock marked: 1864 and U. (eagle) S. / AMOSKEAG MFG. CO. / MANCHESTER N.H. Smooth hardwood straight stock with sling swivels and two barrel bands. Metal carbine buttplate. Amoskeag Manufacturing Company was originally a textile company in Manchester, NH, but like many industrial firms in the 19th century, they expanded into firearms manufacturing.

Condition: Good. Finish primarily a brownish grey patina with areas of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Noticeable scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Cleaning rod absent. Action good. Strong bore. Tom Mixon Collection
