Smith (Poultney & Trimble) Percussion Breech-Loading Civil War Saddle Ring Carbine.
Serial no. 7155 [barrel and receiver], .50 caliber, 21 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear ladder sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Left side of barrel marked: L.R.F. Saddle ring. Left side of the receiver marked: MANUFACTURED BY / AMN. M'CHN. WKS / SPRINGFIELD, MASS. and ADDRESS / POULTNEY & TRIMBLE / BALTIMORE. U.S.A. / SMITH'S PATENT / JUNE 23 1857. Smooth walnut stock and fore-end. JH cartouche to left side of wrist. Metal carbine buttplate. Original brass museum inventory tag attached: J.M. DAVIS / 8969 / MEMORIAL.
Sold to Benefit The JM Davis Collection at the JM Davis Arms and Historical Museum.

Condition: Excellent. Retaining approximately 90-95% finish, with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Heavy dings, bruising and scuffs throughout wood. Action crisp. Mirror bright bore.
