Sharps New Model 1859 Percussion Breechloading Saddle Ring Carbine with Brass Patchbox.

Serial no. 31728, .52 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear ladder sight. Originally blued finish. Saddle ring configuration [ring not present]. Lawrence & Sharps patent to right side of receiver. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Faint but heavily impressed cartouche to left side on stock under saddle ring bar. Hinged early brass patchbox to right side of stock. Brass barrel band and crescent buttplate. Note: Only about 3,000 early Model 1859 carbines were made this way before the design switched to iron mounts.

Condition: Good as presented. Finish a dark grey patina with scattered wear and patches of pitting throughout, heavy on the barrel. Moderate noticeable scuffs, mars and dings to wood with some expected loses due to condition. Action good, bore dark.
