Fancy Sharps Model 1874 Sporting Rifle Shipped to George Hull, Sharps' Employee. Serial no. 161308 (tang, barrel and inside of fore-end), .45 caliber, 30-inch octagonal barrel with Bridgeport address, globe front and Lawrence high notch rear sights. Top barrel flat also marked: OLD RELIABLE and CAL. 45. Barrel under fore-end marked: 5/10/16. Left barrel flat marked: 2 1/10. German Pattern tang sight graduated to 3,000 yards. Left side of frame with Sharps Rifle Co. patent marking. Varnished walnut stock with fine checkered pistol grip and highly figured wood. Checkered Schnabel fore-end. Vacant silver oval escutcheon left side of buttstock. Standard shotgun buttplate numbered to a different gun. Weight approximately 10-lbs. Sold together with a copy of the factory letter signed by Dr. Moore which confirms current configuration and ship date of June 16, 1877. Letter also states that, "...his guns that were charged to him apparently were altered, probably by himself to his wishes."

Condition: Fine to excellent. Barrel retaining approximately 70-80% original thin blue with the balance fading to gray. High point edge wear and scattered nicks. Case colors mostly still vibrant, fading to silver at the breech. Stock: Excellent. Retaining nearly all of a high gloss varnish that appears to be original. Only light handling wear with some staining at lever. Light soiling in the checkered areas. Diamond pattern right side of wrist with a hairline crack. A stunning stock. Action extremely smooth. Bright bore showing some light wear.
