Description
Civil War Burnside Model 1864 Breechloading Saddle Ring Carbine.Serial no. 4791 [breechblock and receiver], .54 caliber, 21-inch barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Top of receiver marked: BURNSIDE PATENT / MODEL OF 1864. R stamped to top of barrel. Saddle ring. Lockplate marked: BURNSIDE RIFLE CO. / PROVIDENCE R.I. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Sling swivel. Crescent metal buttplate.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with noticeable areas of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Heavy scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Action good. Lightly pitted bore.
