Burnside Breechloading Saddle Ring Carbine Attributed to Battle of Little Big Horn.

Serial no. 38188, .54 caliber, 21-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Saddle ring. Burnside address to right side of receiver. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Sling swivel. Crescent metal buttplate. Sold along with typed and handwritten letter, dated 12/12/21. Letter states that while on a family trip to visit with John Stands in Timber, Stands gave the Burnside Carbine to the grandfather. Handwritten notes say that the carbine was carried by a Cheyenne Dog Soldier, at the Battle of Little Big Horn.

Condition: Good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with noticeable areas of handling wear, age and pitting. Scattered scuffs, dings and bruising present to wood. Action good. Moderately pitted bore.
