Description
British Steel Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss by Hewson with Folding Bayonet. 1 1/8-inch bore at muzzle. 14 3/8-inch part round/part octagonal damascus barrel with flared muzzle and molded median band. Silver inlaid band at breech together with coined and dentate patterned bands. Top flat marked: Hewson, London/L-H 848. Spring-loaded hinged bayonet with upper tang-mounted release. Scroll-engraved cock and lock plate marked: Hewson. Ship's prow pan and roller frizzen. Sliding safety. Varnished walnut stock with checkered wrist, vacant silver rectangular escutcheon and engraved steel furniture. Silver oval wedge escutcheons. Hardwood ramrod with bugle-shaped brass tip. Condition: Good to very good. Metal with a grey patina and scattered light pitting. Wood with wear and minor dents and bruises. Action good.Auction Info
