Description

Ballard Falling Block Single Shot Carbine.

Serial no. 3208 [barrel and receiver], .44 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Sling swivels. Metal carbine buttplate. Interesting that this carbine is completely unmarked apart from serial number and the cartridge which is 162. Flayderman's Guide state: "From all indications it appears that the entire production (until the end of the Civil War, April 1865) of approximately 6,600 carbines went to fill military contracts."

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Scuffs and dings present to wood. Crack around screw. Action good. Strong bore.
